With a 40 degree drop in temperature from Mauritius to Ernen for winter sports: we really don't lack variety.
We are accommodated in the pretty chalet 'Bejischwarm' in Niederernen, with sauna and enough space to receive guests from time to time.
After two seasons off, Thomas tests his new knee on the slopes of the Aletsch region and it holds up. We enjoy the downhill runs on Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp in fantastic weather.
A detour to the Eggishorn with a view of the Aletsch Glacier, which in my opinion is much more impressive in summer, was not to be missed. Unfortunately, the downhill slope is closed and we return to Fiescheralp by cable car.
As a change from alpine skiing, we do a cross-country course in Obergoms. After three lessons in classic cross-country skiing, we enjoy the kilometre-long trails, run from Obergesteln through the beautiful winter landscape down the Goms, enjoy the small pubs along the way and as soon as the muscles ache, it's off to the next station and back by train.
We show our visitors the Valais on the well-prepared winter hiking trails through pretty villages and beautiful landscapes.
And as always in Valais, we spent a lot of time with Karin and Martin eating, drinking and playing cards. Thank you both for the entertaining and fun hours.
Now we have had enough of the cold temperatures and are looking forward to the following 2 months in Costa Rica.
